Welcome to this hugely eye-catching 1996 TVR Chimaera 4. 0 in Starmist Green (or more accurately, 2000 Land Rover Wimbledon Green, but essentially the same colour!) which has travelled just 24, 000 miles and was the subject of considerable restorative works in 2017-2018 by Carters of Chapeltown, Leeds.
Naturally, the restoration has expertly overcome all the well-documented weaknesses of TVR’s, starting with the chassis and suspension components, out-riggers, and underside protection. On our car, all elements of the chassis were stripped, blasted, double-primed and powder coated for longevity and extra protection. The front wishbones were replaced for good measure too.
The body of the car was stripped, fully primed, and repainted with anti-chip coats on sills and wheel arch edges, and the exterior finished to a high standard in the previously mentioned Wimbledon Green. The result looks very good indeed and more than stands up to scrutiny.
… We should say, that despite this restoration culminating around 2018, the car has travelled only a few hundred miles since. The underside and paintwork (which can be viewed on a ramp at our premises) still looks spotless. Its impressive stuff.
Mechanically this car is in fine fettle too. The Serpentine engine mated to the T5 gearbox is the ‘one to have’. The engine bay looks incredibly clean and bright, as does the new stainless-steel exhaust which pleasingly also makes a tremendous sound. The car’s behaviour on the road and power-delivery give no cause for concern, neither does its stopping capability, thanks to new callipers, discs pads, brake lines and flexi hoses. The engine had replacement drive belts, new head gaskets and head bolts during the period of restoration. Further, this TVR benefits from a completely new hood assembly with rear window, a full interior retrim, including carpets, and the dash fascia re-veneered. In short, it’s the real deal, with plenty of pictures documenting the rebuild.
