Description
1979 Classic Mini 1100 L. T. D.
The L. T. D. was the last of the special edition round nose South African Minis built in very low volume at the Blackheath Cape Town assembly plant in 1979. They were all finished in dark metallic blue paintwork with special two tone upholstery. It featured the unique to South Africa locally built short stroke 1098cc engine, a Webasto style sliding soft sunroof with wind deflector and a 3 spoke leather steering wheel.
This particular model is referenced in the SA Mini authority Ryno Verster's book ' Thanks for the Mini memories - A South African Mini Story'. We bought it out of a museum that was closing down where it had resided over recent years. It is in excellent condition throughout having been restored to a good standard a few years ago by a respected local Mini specialist in Jo'burg. It retains all factory original welds and is structurally superb as only a hot climate car can be with the bodywork and undersides never having seen any rust.
It runs and drives really well evidencing the low mileage indicated on the clock which is believed genuine although not documented.
A unique opportunity to purchase the only example of this model in the country.
