Very occasionally a car comes along that we just cant replicate, and this is one! It is a 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, finished in Special Order Velvet Red with Linen Leather interior, she has covered 140k Miles but looks like 50k! There are all the original books including the stamped Service Book, she has just had a £3k service and we have just driven her 125 Miles without issue, top down all the way!
Porsche revived the Carrera name - previously used for the competition orientated versions of the preceding 356 model - for its luxuriously equipped, top-of-the-range 911 in 1973, applying the evocative title to all 911 variants, co-incidentally with the introduction of the 3. 2-litre engine, from the start of the 1984 model year. Although it remained an air-cooled 'flat six', the '3. 2' motor was 80% new and incorporated an effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system that at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming. This enlarged and extensively revised new engine produced 231bhp, 27 horsepower up on its predecessor, endowing the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974, the bald statistics being a 0-60mph time of 5. 3 seconds and a top speed of 152mph, with 100mph reachable in a breathtaking 13. 6 seconds. Some 30 years on, Carrera 3. 2s are now highly sort after and for very good reason, though finding one is not that easy.
The first owner of this car was Porsche GB and there is a video on file of the car in 1989 so it may well have been a Porsche Press car. She was first registered on 1st September 1988 and is a desirable 1989 model year car with the G50 gearbox. The colour Velvet Red was a Special Order Colour for 88 and 89 only and I have certainly never seen another! The linen interior is in a lovely condition also! The car has the original Service Book in its Book Pack, with 19 stamps and there are many accompanying invoices also showing the mileage as correct. The car has fully electric seats, electric soft top and also cruise control fitted. The car has just had a £3k recommissioning service after a period in storage after being with the previous owner for 17 years! This is the nicest model, in a super rare colour, with a nice history, she is as original as you can get, with the stickers still on the front hood and passenger door shut. This is one you will fall in love with!
