1999 Mazda RX-7 Type-RS in Innocent Blue Mica, rare OEM black leather interior and only 43, 000 kilometres (27, 000 miles) recorded. Absolutely stunning presentation. Imported to the UK in August 2003.
We are of the opinion that the RX-7, specifically the FD shape is one of the best-looking cars ever produced. It is seriously cool in so many ways, and it drives like nothing else - simply epic!
This example was an incredible find. We came across it through a private seller who approached us with a 2018 VW Camper they were selling. We agreed a deal on the camper and upon collection the owner mentioned they owned a Japanese imported RX-7. So, we naturally asked to see it. It was tucked away in a heated garage next to their house. We couldn't believe our eyes, an undiscovered JDM import in mid-blue, leather interior and BBS alloys… and very very original.
During their 18-year ownership, the car was looked after very well. Back in 2009 at 32, 700 kms, it had an engine rebuild carried out by Jimmy's Mazda -7 Specialists in Norwich costing £5, 000. Approximately, only 1, 000 miles were covered a year, all the way up to the lockdown year in 2022 at which point the last MOT ran out.
Since we acquired the car, we been spent a lot of time and money ensuring it is good for at least another 20 years. First things first, we took it to our local RX-7 specialist, Essex Rotary, who are one of the best in the game for rotary rebuilds, servicing and checking the health of the engine and the whole car in general.
The car received a glowing report from RX-7 specialists, Essex Rotary, who carried out a service and most importantly a compression test on all rotors, which it passed with good readings (see report below).
Actual Cranking Speed at the time of test: 220 rpm Results after normalization to 250rpm . Front Rotor First Chamber [580, 830] : 745. 33
Second Chamber [580, 830] : 763. 37
Third Chamber [580, 830] : 764. 29
Chambers Difference [150] : 18. 96
Back Rotor
First Chamber [580, 830] : 835. 03
Second Chamber [580, 830] : 818. 38
Third Chamber [580, 830] : 829. 95
Chambers Difference [150] : 16. 65
Rotors Difference [100] : 70. 74
Whilst at Essex Rotary we followed through on all their recommendations. They replaced the rear brake calipers, rear brake pads, rear lower control arm balls and wheel arch liners.
Next, we sent the BBS wheels away to be restored and we then made the call to have the whole car repainted. Most panels had scratches and a few small blemishes so we thought it was time for a full fresh coat. Now fully completed, we are over the moon with the results. All the hard work and time spent was worth it.
