Description

FOR SALE
An exceptional Land Rover Freelander 1. 8i with 19, 509 miles and two family owners.

EQUIPMENT
Permanent 4WD with viscous coupling, all-terrain tyres, 400mm wading depth, 33° forward and reverse hill start, 220mm underbody obstacle clearance, roof rails, dent resistant polymer front wings and headlamp lenses, electric tail door drop glass, tailgate mounted spare wheel with cover, driver’s airbag, front door pockets with bottle straps, dashboard oddment trays, three point seat belt and adjustable headrests for all rear seat passengers, passenger front grab handle, lumbar support, remote central door locking, electric front windows, electric/ heated door mirrors, Land Rover R770 radio cassette, digital clock. Factory options; Epsom Green Micatallic paint, electric sunroof, towing pack.

EXTERIOR
This early first-generation Freelander in five-door Station Wagon form is simply exceptional. Finished in factory cost optional Epsom Green Micatallic, (Code 961), the original paint finish is stunning with an amazing bright polished shine throughout. All body panels are pin straight and free from damage and the chunky stylish trim is perfect. The common weak areas such as sills and wheel arches are immaculate, as are all other trim sections, glass lights and badges. The unique polymer wings designed to withstand light impact are free from any distortion. An instant hit when launched and quickly a best seller, however preserved examples are far and few between.

INTERIOR
A tremendously light, spacious and airy cabin space with a very lofty driving position, this Freelander is the perfect modern practical classic car. Commensurate with a genuine 19, 509 miles from new, the interior space is exceptional throughout. The Smokestone Tapestry Fabric is spotless and free from any visible signs of wear to the seats and matching door cards. The headlining is perfect with no marks or sagging whatsoever, almost unheard of for a Land Rover! The delightfully quirky and retro fascia is perfect and all equipment and functions operate seamlessly including the factory fitted R770 radio cassette. The luggage space is immaculate and appears never to have seen so much as a wellington boot! Certainly not one of the usual used and abused examples, this is one for future preservation for any Land Rover fanatic.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original K-Series four-cylinder 1796cc engine produces 118bhp at 5500rpm and 165Nm torque at 2750rpm enabling a top speed of 102mph and 0-60mph in 11. 1 seconds. Whilst no race car, performance is perfectly adequate and the engine is quiet and smooth and the engine bay is very clean. The permanent 4WD system operates correctly and the five-speed gearbox is light and precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard 15” styled steel wheels are in super condition with no rim damage and brand-new premium brand Yokohama Geolander all-terrain tyres in size 195/ 80 R15 were fitted in April 2024 covering approximately 200 miles. The rear mounted spare still wears the original and unused Michelin 4x4 tyre with coloured banding, tyre nobbles and wheel cover plate. The braking system with 262mm front discs and 254mm rear drums has been overhauled in June 2024 and operates exactly is intended.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on the 3rd February 2000, this UK specification example was sourced directly from a Land Rover main agent in Belgium, a practice quite common in the late 1990’s whereby waiting lists could be swerved and significant savings made. The car was ordered by first owner, Mr Thomas, from main dealer Carrosserie Vandewoude who specified factory options including Epsom Green Micatallic paint, electric sunroof and towing pack. The correspondence between Mr Thomas and the concessionaries is in held in a separate file and is extensive, his attention to detail was incredible! The car was owned by Mr Thomas until April 2024 when ownership passed to family member, Mr Bladon.

All handbooks, guides and service book are held in the leather document wallet and there is a separate file of invoices and MOT records as well as both remote fobs and keys. A full service, inspection, cambelt and water pump and brake overhaul were carried out in June 2024. Completing the history file are original Freelander range brochure, specification survey foldout and price list. With earlier Freelander’s becoming highly sought after, this low mileage and low owner cherished example is not to be missed.

MOT April 2025, HPI Clear.
