This is a factory German built and UK Supplied VW Split Screen bus in Right Hand Drive format. The ultimate specification for the UK market and forming the perfect basis for an intense restoration.
We can really vouch for the quality of this bus as we carried out the entire restoration ourselves just two years ago in 2022.
The bus was stripped back to bare metal inside and out having been sand blasted. It has had various new panels wherever required prior to being meticulously prepared for primer and paint. The chosen colour scheme was the iconic and all-time favourite period VW colours, Mango Green over Seagull Grey. These early VW colours are among the most popular pastel shades, indicative of this era!
A lot of effort went into the paint job on this bus which gleams from every angle. This restoration was incredibly thorough and even the entire underside was stripped and prepared in body coloured raptor paint so that all of the work can be seen properly. Not only does this look presentable when on the ramps but it also instils confidence that the underside has had the same level of care and attention as the top half, ensuring that all is solid and as it should be.
The expense laid out on this bus was enormous. Gearbox fully reconditioned by renowned specialist John Walklett (Without doubt the best builder in the UK), Fully reconditioned engine with all new ancillaries save the original oil air bath cooler (obsolete, rare and imperative for good idle and running). 4x Bilstein shock absorbers all round (another expensive extra that transforms the ride quality of the vehicle). Engine bay fire suppression system, Fully re-wired with a brand new 12V wiring loom and fuse box.
Fully restored original steel alloys complete with the best quality polished stainless VW logo hub caps. Deluxe Samba waistline trim fitted to embellish the bus further as well as bumpers with towel rails and overriders to attract even further interest to its iconic aesthetic appearance.
Upon completion of all the above, the time came for us to concentrate on the interior build of this bus. This is our speciality over the past 15 years where we have worked to build and design some really special VW interiors, ensuring that every square inch of space is utilised as effectively as possible whilst not compromising on practicality and appearance.
This interior is very high specification. This list summarises most of what has been completed but is not limited to the below.
• Full new headliner professionally installed in original style perforated off white vinyl including rear curved corner cars to match.
• Hard wearing Edelweiss off white flooring. This really does stand the test of time and is very easy to clean.
• Full width Rock n roll bed which acts as a 3-person rear seat and folds down to make a very large bed. These are the best and only bed frames we would ever use. They are strong, easy to operate and maximise the space available for sleeping, which we consider to be one of the most important factors in a camper van. They are also custom welded to store the table neatly behind the frame when not in use.
• Matching fold down rear facing buddy seat to match. The same manufacturer as bed frame (Rusty Lee).
• Curved bed skirting board to sit flush with frame. Incorporated recessed housing for table leg.
• Main cabinet built to incorporate curved cornered section behind bulkhead housing appliances and worktops complete with the original style Devon edging trim to maintain a period theme throughout the bus. Cabinets built using high quality materials and finished in superb oak veneer with black laminate worktops.
• Flush mounted Waeco CRX50 fridge built into cabinet. Operates on both 12v and 240v operation. These are the best camper van fridges available for certain in our opinion.
• 12V leisure battery, split charge relay and 240v electrical hookup all installed allowing for every kind of electrical supply internally.
• Dometic double gas burner hob.
• Bespoke table in matching black laminate with curved edging trim. Detachable via pedestal system.
• Full upholstery throughout entire bus in striking Moonrock dark grey vinyl embellished with off white piping and fluted inserts. Bed cushions are dense, comfortable and easy to clean.
• Madmatz front carpet set.
• Sound / Heat insulation throughout.
• Full curtain track set installed with curved front tracks and new curtain set in a resplendent fabric.
• 6x Lap Belts installed throughout in original style grey with chrome buckles.
