The history:
The new Jaguar sports car with the type designation XK was introduced in 1948. Jaguar developed a new in-line 6-cylinder engine for this model, which was built until 1992. The XK120 was followed by the larger XK140, of which a total of 8, 884 were built in three body variants. The most sexy coupé, as the XK was called at the time, was delivered to a total of 2, 740 owners. This example is an original MC with an output of around 230PS and in excellent, unwelded condition. Built in 1955, there is a first record from 1959 in the state of Pennsylvania in the USA. In 1998, the car arrived in Switzerland via Germany and was subsequently technically refurbished by Rinspeed for the owner. All documents from 2003 to the present day are available. The XK has been professionally and uncompromisingly maintained with the aim of having a reliable vehicle that also performs at major classic car rallies.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The original pastel green colour is in excellent condition. Although the restoration was carried out 30 years ago, only a few traces of age can be recognised. The deep lustre is still visible today, the body is undamaged and the gaps are flawless. The soft top was replaced a few years ago and is as good as new.
Interior:
The fine leather interior and the real wood panelling are in almost new condition. Only the carpets show signs of use. The centre compartment conceals a modern radio with all of today's features. The high-quality Twinmaster is the indispensable instrument for precision driving according to the road book.
Engine and mechanics:
Start on the first push, silky smooth running characteristics, an excellently tuned 5-speed gearbox and optimised cooling ensure optimum driving characteristics. The engine has various small leaks, which can be repaired on request, but do not have to be.
Chassis:
The new dampers, revised spring leaves, hydraulic power steering and front disc brakes allow the fast Briton to prove why it was one of the winners at Le Mans in its day, even when cornering and braking.
Driving experience:
The XK 140 is beautiful on the outside, beautiful in the interior and incredibly nice to drive. The rapid acceleration is remarkable and even at 160 km/ h you feel safe. Whether sporty or cosy, the XK140 can do both.
Recommendation:
The XK140 series is the most popular XK among connoisseurs and enthusiasts because it offers significantly more interior space than its predecessor, the XK120, and still shows the beautiful hip curve that was smoothed out in its successor, the XK150. This example impresses with its excellent condition and the unique comfort that could be achieved thanks to the technical options.
