Description
motodrome offer for sale this left hand drive 1975 Steyr Puch Pinzgauer 712 6x6.
The first generation Pinzgauer was produced from 1971 to 2000 by Steyr Daimler Puch in Austria, and is one of the most capable off-road vehicles ever made, especially the 712 models such as this, with selectable 6-wheel drive. It was used by the military in the UK, Switzerland, Austria and Saudi Arabia among others.
It can tow up to 5000kg on the road.
It was designed to be reliable and easy to fix in the field, with an air-cooled 2. 5 litre petrol engine, 5-speed gearbox, fully independent suspension, hydraulic diff locks (selectable on the fly), 24 volt electrics, and portal axles. Especially in 712 form, it can get across just about anything.
Basically it’s a more advanced Land Rover 101FC. And yes, I’ve driven both, and this compares very favourably indeed.
This one is in excellent order throughout, and was UK registered in 2009.
Odometer reading 72000kms, and we have it’s Swiss army service records up until it left military service in 2006.
Also comes with handbook, workshop manual, and various Swiss military documents, all in the original wallet.
It’s had 3 previous owners since UK registration.
The rear box body is bare inside, so it would make an excellent conversion into an Overlander or shoot bus. Or just use it and enjoy it for what it is – a cool military vehicle!
It's MOT exempt and of course qualifies for historic road tax.
All in all, it represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a really well-sorted, original spec example that’s guaranteed to be noticed wherever it goes.
On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos – a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description
