Description
Introduced in 1971 the Suzuki GT 750 was the first production Japanese motorcycle to have a liquid-cooled engine. The model featured a three cylinder two stroke power unit developing 67bhp, with a five speed gearbox and a claimed top speed of 110 mph. This is a late example which features the uprated brakes, a retuned engine and higher gearing. It is an original UK bike first registered on the 20th of May 1976.
It has clear frame and engine numbers which match the V5 registration document. In addition, the bike has an original Suzuki ID sticker on its steering head which confirms the frame and engine numbers.
Supporting documents show that a major restoration was carried out around 2005. There are also a number of photographs which show the motorcycle stripped to the frame and various parts of the rebuild. It was sold by a well-known motorcycle dealer in 2011 when it was generally in very good condition but at that time they were not happy with the engine. As a result it was stripped, checked over and rebuilt having the crank overhauled by specialists SEP of Kegworth. The bike was also fitted with a new replica exhaust which was supplied by Delkavik. The same dealer acquired and resold the GT 750 again at the end of 2021. In 2023 it had service work including new plugs, carbs and timing checked, electrics checked and new Bridgestone BT 46 front tyre and tube fitted. The fuel tank has in its history been lined but seems serviceable. At the last service the rear mudguard was replaced with another very good example.
A previous owner has kindly provided us with some hints and tips on the model - starting instructions and recommendations regarding two-stroke oil and tyre pressures. He has also provided details of recommended specialists for spare parts. This really is a lovely example of a ground breaking historic Japanese motorcycle.
