The series 2 Minors were produced between 1952 and 1956 with a facelift in 1954 to the grille, dashboard and front and rear lights, although the split windscreen remained until the introduction of the Minor 1000 in 1956.
This car is a 1955 Minor Series 2 in its original colour of Clarendon Grey with a red interior. The original 803cc “A series” has been upgraded to a 948cc unit (a common mod as the original engine was very “pedestrian”). The original trafficators are fully working but flashing indicators have also been fitted. The number plate is original to the car from 1955 but has been deemed non transferable now by the DVLA, because of a long period off the road, probably in the 1970’s.
The last owner bought the car in 2018 and spent around £2k on a long list of replacement mechanical electrical and cosmetic parts including a comprehensive brake overhaul, refurbished wheels and new tyres, new double core radiator, carburettor re-build, new fuel pump and a rebuilt higher ratio differential (from a 948cc car which allows better cruising).
This car came to us as a bereavement sale and we have just carried out some re-commissioning including an oil and filter change and various cosmetic jobs. It is in excellent condition, the underside in particular is rock solid with an absence of ugly welding and the upper body is in smart order. The paint finish is good but as an older restoration up close there are various very minor paint imperfections but it still presents beautifully; the wing gaskets are black and the inner wheel-arches are body coloured and the door fit is also very good. The interior trim is neat and tidy and largely original although a replacement carpet set and matching underlay is fitted – the floors under the carpets are in beautiful order.
Four-door Minors from the 50’s are quite rare – this one with various upgrades and substantial recent expenditure offers great value for money. Comes with history file containing various invoices, some old MOT’s (the oldest from 1968), original “buff” logbook and modern style V5 showing number of previous owners – three.
