Description
This DB5 left the factory in its original colours of Autumn Gold over Red Connolly with factory options, chrome roadwheels and heated rear screen. It was first registered to J Williams & Sons Ltd of Portmadoc, North Wales in October 1965. The DB5 returned to the factory several times in its first year for servicing and maintenance at which point it had covered some 11, 000 miles. Not much is known of its subsequent years until it was purchased in the early 80’s by bass player and founder member of Duran Duran, John Taylor. In October 1985 he took the Aston Martin to specialists Chapman Spooner who commenced a comprehensive restoration process. By August 1986 his father, John Taylor (Snr), joined him in managing the project and they moved the car to specialists GTC Engineering in Rushden to complete what had become a full nut & bolt restoration with everything being carried out by GTC with the exception of body fabrication by Aston specialists Shapecraft, just down the road in Northampton. Being a 007 enthusiast Taylor chose the ‘Bond Spec’ of Silver Birch for his re-paint and Elephant Grey Connolly with grey carpets for his trim! Completed in 1988 the DB5 left GTC with 34, 000 miles on the clock and was used sparingly by the Taylors with the car being mainly kept by Tigastor in Leighton Buzzard. Taylor parted company with his Aston two years later when he sold it to Tigastor owner Norman Nuttall who kept the DB5 for ten years before selling it to Desmond J Smail in 1999 at which point it had covered 39, 000 miles. A thorough appraisal of the car revealed a badly damaged block so Desmond decided to source a replacement and fully re-built the engine to 4. 2 spec. The current owner bought the car from Desmond in 2000 and agreed a further course of refurbishment to include a bare metal re-spray in Silver Birch, recondition of the rear axle, re-trim of carpets and suspension re-builds. The Aston has since been serviced and maintained by Desmond J Smail Ltd for its owner, presents in very good order and comes with comprehensive history.
