Here we have a very rare and desirable example of the legendry Ford Escort RS 1600i. There were allegedly only 8, 659 of these beauties built and this one is possibly in the rarest colour of all, Graphite grey. This RS comes to us from a Ford RS collector who is just downsizing his quite considerable collection, and we are very pleased that he chose us to help because we really do enjoy dealing with such rare cars as this. The Escort was first registered on 11/ 2/ 1983 to its first owner and subsequently has had only 6 owners since. Quite a low number for one of these, which makes it quite a rare thing. Within the paperwork there are a lot of details of some of the previous owners, which are nice details to have with your classic.
The car itself presents very well and is very original in its specification, even down to the rear parcel shelf having no holes in it for speakers etc. Although there are some speakers behind the front seats fitted, but these are very easily taken care of if you wish to remove them. The specification carries on with a factory sunroof, spot and driving lamps and, very importantly, it has 5 alloy wheels as the spare usually goes missing. The vendor also tells us that it still retains a lot of its correct specification, down to the very rare and desirable Koni shock absorbers.
The paperwork is also very impressive with a lot of invoices and receipts going back over many years, as well as a lot of previous MOT certificates which go very nicely with the fresh MOT valid to June 2025. There are also details of rolling road test reports, which again are a nice piece of history to have with your RS 1600i. The bodywork is in very good condition, it has had some paint over the years we are sure, but it does look very clean and tidy. The interior is also very nice and looks to be in original factory condition, bar the rear speakers fitted mentioned earlier.
As we always say, you are more than welcome to come along and view the cars we have at our purpose built facility in Cheshire. If you have any interest in a very desirable and collectable Fast Ford, yet alone an RS1600i, you really must come and see this one. This example represents so much value and can only become more collectable as time goes on. They are definitely not going to make anything like this ever again.
