Whatever your definition of rare is, this car is rare. The Phase 1 3-door in Sports Blue undoubtedly the most coveted of these cars and whilst you may find others on the internet, although not easily, honestly ask yourself the last time that you saw one of these on the road
UK supplied with just 5 owners from new. Owner number 4 retained possession for 17 years from 1998 until 2015, and then the last recorded owner from that point until early 2023 when I bought it for my own collection
Of a certain age, I owned a very early, albeit identical car on an ‘H’ prefix in 1994. When this particular car appeared for sale just 1. 5 miles from my home, where it had been residing for the previous 8 years, I just had to have it and couldn’t believe my luck. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing…

Restored to a very nice, presentable, and usable example between 2015 and 2023 by the last recorded keeper, with some further improvements by myself since then
Essentially a standard car, other than for period performance enhancements such as an air filter/ induction kit, twin exit sports exhaust back box, uprated dampers/ springs and the aforementioned black leather interior which came from a Chamade Phase 2
The car looks utterly superb, very smart, and genuinely very clean. True to it’s original specification, it is an extremely uncommon sight to see one of these on UK roads now, and for people of a certain age it will generate a huge amount of interest
The motor is smooth and willing, and remains rev-happy. It still goes like ‘stink’ and feels tiny vs modern cars. An absolute hoot of a ’90s hot hatch that still goes, sounds, handles and stops as it should
It’s not perfect and needs minor attention in places. For example the temperature gauge doesn’t work, the fuel computer has a mind of it’s own, door and sunroof seals are tired, and will leak, and other minor bits. That is the nature of the beast…
…however, it remains a quite superb survivor from the ’90s, in genuinely very good condition, and is fundamentally sound in all ways
If you fancy one, then you’ll know they are (very) few and far between
I fully appreciate that people can value (modern) classic cars quite differently, and reasonably so. I will only sell at the asking price, or very close to, and so respectfully, if the price doesn’t suit, or you think I’ve got it wrong (and I may have) then just move along to the next one without need for fanfare, or internet discussion etc, etc…
I may consider a p/ ex of car or motorcycle, entirely at my discretion
