NNB 285G was built in 1969 and is one of the 9000 or so MGB’s built in Sydney, Australia between 1963 and 1972. This very well presented, excellent driving example was purchased well over 30 years ago by its lady owner and the car has been a huge part of her life. It has toured in Australia, the UK and has been thoroughly enjoyed by its long term owner who now is returning to Australia and has decided its time to part with this superb little car. The MGB comes with an excellent well documented history and the car has been driven to MG events all over Australia, including a three day drive from Sydney to Perth across the outback. Having owned the car since the early 1990’s, the owner decided to bring the car to York in 2014, finding touring the Yorkshire Dales more enjoyable than enduring gridlocked traffic in Central Sydney.
In order to prove reliable and capable of the type of long distance touring this car has been used too, it was very important to maintain it to the highest of standards. During the earlier years of ownership and throughout the 1990's the MG was maintained by John W Scott Classic Motor Repairs in New South Wales and invoices are on file for major mechanical upkeep and renovation to include an engine rebuild, gearbox rebuild, new clutch, cooling system overhaul, re-wire and major braking and suspension work. By 2006 the MGB was with Still-One Automotive Restoration in NSW for underbody restoration work and MG Centre Sydney carried out servicing and upkeep until the car came over to the UK. The MGB continued to be well maintained over here, and the car was only known to us as it was booked into our Malton Coachworks workshop for an MOT, health check and service ahead of being sold. We carried out a service, carried out all the recommended work and we are pleased to have been given the opportunity to find a new home after over 30 years with one owner.
This MGB Roadster presents very well, the paintwork is of a very good standard, is the chrome work, upholstery and hood. The bodyshell is structurally excellent, the underside impressive and mechanically the car is very strong having always been treated with no expense spared. On the road the car feels tight, responsive and handles superbly. The engine is excellent with impressive oil pressure, it offers great performance and feels spritely. The four speed non overdrive gearbox is smooth and slick, the lack of overdrive has not stopped the car being used for long distance touring, it manages absolutely fine without. NNB 285G is a fantastic car, it has proven reliability, it presents in lovely condition and is great fun on the open road. The MG comes with an impressive file of paperwork, and with the provenance of over thirty years with one owner, this is an MGB with a lovely story and a rich history of reliability and enjoyment.
