One of 79 Elan S4's returned to the factory and rebuilt as Sprints. Confirmed by the Elan Sprint owners club as a car they were unaware of until 2012.
Comes with a large history bespoke box file. There is some early history from 1975 to 2005. At which point the history then becomes extensive with full details and photos of the restoration carried out between 2014 and 2016. A Lotus Certificate of Providence pack is provided with workshop manuals and the Elan restoration ring bound book.
This car was extensively restored between 2014 and 2016 with an aim of preserving as much of the original car as possible but adding suitable upgrades as appropriate.
Previously sold and known to us, although a good example the next owner then spent £42, 000 as he never intended to sell, on restoring the car to the beautiful example it is today. The restoration was carried out by Forge Enterprises, paintwork by Option 1.
One of the finest Elans available. Please see the details section below for more information on the restoration
MORE DETAILS...
The car was stripped down, the original chassis was stripped, repaired, galvanised and then powder coated. All suspension components were stripped blasted and zinc plated. Suspension was rebuilt using polybushes, new bearings, joints and trunnions throughout.
The engine was completely rebuilt using parts from QED Motorsport. The cylinder head was gas flowed, (performance is 125 BHP as per dyno test in 2020). A new standard clutch was fitted and the gearbox was stripped and rebuilt with new bearings seals and gaskets. The rear differential again was completely stripped and rebuilt. Brakes fully rebuilt and overhauled with stainless hoses.
The restored, strengthened and repainted bodyshell was refitted with new door pins and care was spent on realigning the doors, electric window mechanisms rebuilt, new seals as required, new wiring loom, lamps, windscreen rubbers, new rear boot boards etc.
The interior trim and dashboard were in very good condition and have been refitted with new carpets and underfelt. A new hood and tonneau were added by us in 2016 to finish off the restoration.
The car has covered approximately 2600 miles since the restoration
To rebuild a Sprint to this standard now would be in excess of £50, 000.
This Elan really needs to be viewed.
Like all our cars, this Lotus will be supplied fully checked over and serviced and with a new MOT. It will also be HPI checked and if sold for use within the UK, will come with a comprehensive warranty.
