Founded by Henry Leland and Robert Faulconer, the Cadillac Automobile Company of Detroit, Michigan completed its first car in October 1902, the firm's superior precision manufacturing technology soon establishing it as the foremost builder of quality cars in the USA. Cadillac was among the pioneers of the V8 engine and introduced the first synchromesh gearbox on its 1929 range. Always innovators in automobile technology, the company continues to produce cars recognised everywhere as symbols of wealth and prestige. Tail fins had been introduced by General Motors' chief stylist Harley Earl on the 1948 Cadillacs, and this controversial device would reach its zenith in 1959 before gradually fading away. The 1960 models boasted a slightly more subtle rendition of the classic 1959 look. The '59 line-up also marked the introduction of a new 390ci (6. 4-litre) 325bhp V8 engine, now widely recognised as one of Cadillac's best. Automatic transmission, power steering and power-assisted brakes would continue to be standard on all models. Peerless icons of a bygone age, Cadillacs of this era are among the most highly prized of all post-war American automobiles.
According to paperwork on file, this magnificent Cadillac two-door convertible was first registered on 30th June 1960. The car was imported into the UK by our vendor in 2018, since when it has formed part of a small private collection (bill of sale on file). Marque specialists have maintained the car since then, carrying out works that have included fitting a new wiper motor, fuel pump, Dynator alternator, new front and rear road springs, and works to the wiring. In addition, the engine was stripped down and fitted with new cylinder heads, main bearing set, con-rod bearing set, piston ring set, and gaskets. A replacement hood has been fitted also. Invoices for works undertaken during our vendor's ownership total over £18, 000. The car is offered with a V5C document and (copy) old Belgian title.
