It is not often that we can say this, but we are very pleased to offer this charming and very rare Ford Cortina Lotus MK1 finished in the correct Lotus colours of white with the iconic green strip. This example has been in the ownership of a very careful and enthusiastic owner since 2008 who is only offering the car to market so he can grow his passion for Italian cars. This is with regret and we are not so sure he really wants to, but he has.
The Cortina was first registered on 1/ 6/ 1966 and has only had 6 previous owners in its 58 years. It comes with a HPi and V5/ C, which both state the originality of this amazing car. The Ford carries a nice bit of history as it was reputedly owned by Nick Reynolds and co-driven by him on a few road rallies with David Garrett. There are a selection of entry stickers on the glass detailing some of the events it has been in, the vendor tells us. It also comes with a selection of past MOTs and a Cortina Owner’s Manual written by P. Olyslager printed in 1971.
The Lotus had a repaint last year and has had little use since, which shows when you look at this beautiful car. The vendor advises that it has a strong engine and gearbox and he would not hesitate to drive the car any distance. The specification is very good with a lot of originality, but a few little touches that have been made for road rallies such as cut-off switches, easy access for fuses, night use rev counter, map reader, front period spot lights, original steering wheel, twisted manifold, engine brace, boot filling fuel tank, rear spot light, correct deep dish steel wheels with wheel caps, centre fitted hand brake, sparco pedals. The paintwork, interior and chrome are all in great condition, the engine bay is very detailed and clean, as is the boot area, which you would wish to have on any car especially this one. It has its chassis plate fitted and comes with a Fiva Identity Card for historic vehicles confirming the originality.
If you are looking for a Ford Cortina Lotus MKI to either put into your collection or to road race on Le-Jog, Lands-End to John O’Groats (as it has already done), or similar, then this may be the one for you. It is not often that one of these cars ever come to market, so please take advantage of this and get yourself a great car with a great history.
