Developed over the years Velocette’s reliable two-strokes needed to be joined by a more upmarket machine by the 1920s. The Percy Goodman-designed, overhead-cam Model K followed the trend and was first offered in 1924. The new 348cc engine employed a single overhead camshaft driven by vertical shaft, and due to the frame design had a very narrow crankcase. The 1925 Isle of Man TT was a disaster for the new model K, with the three machines retiring with oil fed lubrication issues. But such adversity was all part of its development and a new dry sump system was introduced. Wins followed in 1927 and 1928 and by the end of the 1920s, Veloce’s range of K series roadster models.
This 1928 Velocette has formed part of a collection of motorcycles the late owner has gathered. It was despatched to the agents Alexandra & Co Glasgow and then sold to a Mr. D M Kinlay Scotland. Restoration work has been carried out on the Velocette, but sadly he never got to finishing it. A very nimble lightweight Vintage machine, once complete it will be eligible for the famous Banbury Run and many other events. A mostly complete machine, with some parts missing, it is sold strictly as viewed. It is offered with a current V5C, its original RF60 logbook, and a dating certificate from Ivan Rhodes.
