Description
1926 AMILCAR CC
BF 7125
A beautifully restored Vintage Amilcar, in superb condition.
This delightful and original Amilcar CC is a lovely example of Amilcar’s first production car.
Few would argue with Georgano's statement that "Of all the sporting voiturettes that proliferated in France after World War One, the Amilcar was the most famous and successful." Founded in 1921 by Messrs Akar and Lamy (hence the Amilcar name), their first vehicle was a stripped-out lightweight designed by ex-LeZebre engineers Edmond Moyet and Andre Morel.
Called the CC it was powered by a Jules Salomon-designed four-cylinder side-valve engine of about one-litre capacity that produced 18bhp and was mated to a three-speed manual gearbox. Employing a lightweight ladder-frame chassis with all round quarter-elliptic leaf springs and rear wheel drum brakes, it was noted for its sprightly performance and nimble handling.
This particular example was found in a somewhat dilapidated, yet original state, and carefully restored in France by a previous owner, imported to the UK in 2014, it has been well cared for by subsequent owners, with its original ‘Tourist Large’ coachwork in immaculate condition and delightful light wings and beaded edge wheels, it really shows the design of the time, what a fantastic alternative to an Austin 7 or Salmson.
Driving very nicely and starting readily on the handle, this could be a fantastic first foray into vintage motoring, or an addition to a larger collection, suitable for a host of events from VSCC Light car runs, European events such as Monthlery revival and not forgetting the active Amilcar club, here in the UK and sister clubs abroad. A rare car, beautifully restored and superb vintage value!
