Description

Prepare to be enchanted by the extraordinary '1933 MG Milano 1500.' This captivating vintage race car stands as a true testament to automotive artistry and historical significance. With only three of these magnificent vehicles ever crafted by the legendary Bruce Leers, owning Car #1 is an unparalleled opportunity for collectors and automotive enthusiasts alike.

Originally built in 1959, the Milano 1500's body was meticulously fashioned onto the chassis of an original 1933 MG J Type. This particular chassis had been absent from the MG Register since its departure to Australia in 1934, adding an air of mystique and allure to this exceptional automobile.

The Milano 1500 embodies the essence of performance, despite its small and lightweight frame. Its beating heart is a 1500cc MG XPAG engine, skillfully matched with a close-ratio MG TC gearbox and a TC differential housing boasting a modified A series differential center. The result is a symphony of agility and power, delivering a thrilling and harmonious performance on both road and track.

The Milano's stunning bodywork was meticulously crafted by JWF Glass-Fibre Industries in Australia, showcasing their mastery in creating automotive works of art. Adorned in its original 'Two Pack Orange' hue, this car radiates vibrancy and allure, capturing the attention of all who behold it.

This car boasts an illustrious racing history, having been piloted by the legendary Australian driver Bruce Leer from 1959 to 1962, achieving notable successes on the track. It then passed into the ownership of renowned racing driver Moss Angliss from 1962 to 1965. Subsequent owners Ray Ryan and David Bird continued its racing legacy, painting it a striking green, from 1965 to 1983. Acquired by John Scott in 1983, the car continued to grace numerous national events. In 1998, it received an 'FIA' Historic Description Certificate from CAMS, becoming eligible for FIA HTP papers for racing in the UK, EU, and USA. After some 30 years of Racing, John Scott sold the Car to Geoff Herbert of Western Australia - who subsequently sold the Car to Mike Gosbell in 2013 and he then exported the Car to the UK, where his son resided in 2018. Since then JD Classics have diligently cared for the car.

The Car first ran at Orange Raceway, Australia, with Bruce Leer driving in 1960. In 1961 at Warwick Farm, Bruce set the Class Fastest Time Record, which was held for many year! It made it's debut, painted Orange - but shortly after Bruce repainted the Car in Bright Green, which it retained for some 40 years, before reverting back to the Orange it made it's first appearance in.

Under the hood lies a meticulously prepared MG TF 1500 block, outfitted with robust all-steel internals. The head has been expertly tuned to operate smoothly on 98 pump fuel, ensuring optimal performance on both road and track. This vehicle has also recently been registered for road use, demonstrating its versatility.

Beyond its rarity and racing heritage, the '1933 MG Milano 1500' shines as a collectible gem, radiating an irresistible allure. Its rich racing history and impeccable craftsmanship render it a priceless addition to any esteemed car collection.
