The direct steering of the Austin Healey perfectly combines the driving position, high-capacity engine, and intoxicating exhaust note to offer an unparalleled driving experience. The '100' model cars were the first of the 'Big' Healeys, with shells produced by Jensen Motors and delivered to Austin’s Longbridge plant where they were fitted with Austin underpinnings and christened the ‘Austin Healey 100’.
In 1955, the '100M' model was introduced, arguably the most desirable from a driver's standpoint. Marketed as a performance model or 'motorsport' variant, it featured larger carburettors, a specialised cold air intake box, high-lift camshaft, and 8. 1:1 compression pistons. These M-Spec cars produced 110bhp and were easily identifiable by their louvred bonnet and belt. These modifications were also available as a 'Le Mans Engine Modification' kit, allowing existing Healey owners to convert their cars to M-Specification without purchasing a new vehicle.
This particular '100' BN2 began its life in blue with a dark blue interior, a laminated windscreen, and an optional heater. It was originally sold by local dealer Charles Clark & Son Limited of Wolverhampton.
Noteworthy for its construction, this car features complete lightweight aluminium coachwork (except for the boot lid) and has a verified full M-Specification engine, as evidenced by historic invoices and dynamometer tests. The car sports a louvred bare aluminium bonnet, affirming its status as a true performance icon.
The car has been repainted Primrose Yellow by its previous owners, the Willis family, with the work completed to a high standard. Although it has seen light recent use, it has been meticulously maintained by the renowned marque specialists, JME Healeys of Leamington Spa, with over £12, 000 spent to bring this Healey to top condition. Included with the car is a comprehensive history file, including a British Motor Heritage Certificate confirming the original specification.
The seats and carpets are in good order, as is the dashboard and Moto Lita steering wheel, with restraint provided by four-point competition racing harnesses. The spare wheel is located at the rear. The bodywork and paint are in excellent condition for a nearly 70-year-old car, reflecting its use for its intended purpose. The standard wire-wheels have been upgraded to a wider set of period-correct Cobra items, giving the car an impressively aggressive stance, complemented by coachwork by the famous 'Rod Jolley'. The fold-down windscreen is in excellent condition, showing no signs of wear. Presented in excellent condition throughout, this Healey would be a thrilling addition to a grid of historic sprints, hill climbs, or simply for spirited weekend drives.
