Description
Delivered to its first owner on the 1st May 1979, this Midget 1500 was originally sold by us 2 years ago to a gent who has loved his ownership, but now finds his mobility for getting in/ out is reduced. Knowing what a great car she is we're delighted to see her back..... we might add, looking even better! Finished in her original Vermillion Red she comes with a black interior (seats with optional head-rests), black hood & tonneau cover. Walking around the car, we're delighted to say that the bodywork remains in very good condition, the panel gaps are all excellent and the Vermillion paintwork polishes to a beautiful shine, the original rubber bumpers are in excellent condition, free from any scuffs / fading and the lens / glass / rubbers all remain in great condition and most important of all, the usually weak rear wing seams are in excellent order! The eagle-eyed will have spotted that this Midget no longer sits on her original Rostyle wheels but now sports a set of 13" Minilite style wheels, with diamond cut lips, 'MG' crested centre caps, a matched set of Barum tyres, showing 5mm + all round and adding further to the 'sportier' nature the Midget now has a free-flow sports exhaust, one 'blip' of the throttle and the Midget offers a raspy 'bark'!
The wonderfully feel extends to the interior too. Open the door and you're meet with a Moto-Lita leather bound steering wheel, inertia-reel seatbelts, the original seats and carpets are in lovely condition too, the boot area has now been trimmed with carpet even covering the spare wheel and should you need test the folding soft-top we're happy to say this remains in excellent, 'as new', condition too ...... though naturally we would rather enjoy top-down motoring with the tonneau in place, keeping the classic lines nice and clean.
Mechanically the car is in fine fettle too. Well maintained and used sparingly the engine fires from cold and with a little choke settles into its 'roarty' idle. Our previous customer actually drove the Midget some 100 miles home on the day of collection and we're happy to report that she drives fantastically well; she pulls cleanly in all gears, a benefit of the Accuspark Ignition upgrade, and offers light positive steering, brakes well, corners nicely and feels tight with no nasty 'crashing' over the bumps and naturally ahead of her sale, she'll pass to our independent engineer for a 'Health Check', where we'll attend to service, pre-MOT items and she'll come with 12 months MOT too, all peace-of-mind for her new owner.
With the best, show, examples now commanding £12k+ and poorly maintained / resto examples being cost prohibitive to restore, finding a nice MG Midget isn't as straight forward as one might think. Well prepared and cherished with a good history file (we have invoices for £0000's including an older professional restoration), this Midget 1500 is a wonderful example, fabulously maintained and well sorted, she offers an enthusiast a great way into classic MG ownership, whether it's for shows / high-days / holidays or one that can be enjoyed on a daily basis too.
