Description

The factory build sheet states that this DB2 left the factory finished in period British Racing Green with beige leather. It was destined for Singapore and was delivered by Eastern Motors on 5th December 1952 to Mr LC Chan. Given its destination, the engine was built to standard specification, ie. 107bhp, as only low octane (pool petrol) was available; incidentally the Vantage engine was only built for export for countries where 80 octane fuel was obtainable and from 1953, here in the UK too, when premium fuels were introduced.

We understand from the comprehensive history file, it was shipped back to the UK in 1955 and purchased by a Mr JS Pearson of London, SW3. Interestingly, in November 1961 under Mr Pearson's ownership, the engine was replaced by the factory with a Vantage (VB6E/ 50/ 627) 125 bhp unit; all of which is noted on the original build sheet.

The chassis file indicates only 7 further keepers, including the avid Aston Martin collector, Simon Draper for a period of 4 years prior to its purchase by Mr FP Jorgensen on 26th July 1991 who kept the car at home in Denmark for the next 20 years. Whilst in his ownership the car was maintained meticulously and in 1993 he had the privilege of participating with his DB2 in the world famous Mille Miglia. Happily, this and the car's participation is detailed in the accompanying and perfectly preserved entry catalogue.

Given the total build amounted to just 411 cars, this particularly rare split screen model is presented in truly superb order, having been more recently the recipient of some major works (2015-17) courtesy of the current owner who purchased it from me some 7 years ago.

The scale of these works is immense and incorporates pretty much the entire car..... the car was fully stripped and the engine, gearbox, front suspension and rear axle were all rebuilt and then once naked, was re-wired where necessary too. Pleasingly there are comprehensive invoices on file from the entrusted AM specialist that detail all of these works which also include some sensible upgrades such as EZ power steering, unleaded head, bespoke twin exhaust set up, high torque starter motor and a great deal besides.

Although the BRG paint work was generally in very good order, it was decided that (Andrew) Mitchell Motors would undertake a repaint which duly took place during 2017... as ever these things escalate and much else was improved along the way too.... once again there are detailed invoices from Mitch Motors concerning the work undertaken.

This DB2 presents beautifully, evidently the bar has been raised hugely over the vast majority of DB2's available... this car simply excels both mechanically and bodily, whilst the interior remain beautifully patinated and largely original, thus ticking in all the right boxes.

The history has been extensively researched by the current owner and is now nicely chronicled in three A4 files which include a AM Heritage Certificate along with original factory specification and service records.
