Description
William I'Anson Ltd are thrilled to offer for sale for the first time publicly since the 1960s, the Ex - Sir Malcolm Campbell, Bernard Kain 1926 Bugatti Type 35 to 35B.
This fabulous and well known example has only been offered for sale once previously since it was restored by Geoffrey St. John in 1964 and has only changed ownership twice in the last 60 years.
Raced, hill climbed and rallied with great success by one of the most prolific racers of Bugatti of the post War era, former Chairman of the VSCC and Bugatti Owners Club Vice President, Bernard Kain. Since he first raced the car in April 1966, he won the Boulogne Trophy on a number of occasions, the prestigious Itala Trophy four times, the Williams Trophy twice and competed in the first Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
Restored by Geoffrey St. John and upgraded by him to 35B specification in 1964, chassis number 4696 was Malcolm Campbell’s Brooklands 50-Mile record holding Type 35 Grand Prix.
Cherished in its current ownership and previous owner for over 18 years, very much taking over where Bernard left off, attending numerous International Bugatti Rallies and events from the Czech Republic, Italy, France and Holland, right down to New Zealand.
A multiple award winner with the VSCC and Bugatti Owners Club right up to last year.
The subject of a complete and sympathetic rebuild by marque specialists Ivan Dutton Ltd. in 2001 . Well documented by renowned historian David Sewell and a delight to drive. The opportunity to acquire one of the most well known Type 35B of the post-War Bugatti and vintage racing scene here in the UK is not something that comes to light very often; as this car has proven.
