Introduction
The Land Rover Series 1 80-inch is an important vehicle in Land Rover history. It was the British carmaker's first mass-produced civilian four-wheel-drive car. The Series 1 80-inch was introduced in 1948 and remained in production until 1958. This iconic Land Rover model was designed to be versatile and handle different terrains. It had a robust chassis and a lightweight aluminium body, making it suitable for both on-road and off-road adventures. The 80-inch in its name refers to the length of the wheelbase, which measured 80 inches or about 2 metres.
History
The 1952 model was launched in August 1951. The main changes of this model were the modified grille that was changed to the "T-shape" model, the inverted T. In addition, the engine was boosted to 1997cc with 52hp, also the doors got door handles on the outside, the mudguards were now welded in one piece instead of two bolted parts. This model remained in production until July 1953.
During production, the Land Rover Series 1 80-inch underwent several improvements and updates. These included improvements to the engine, brakes and suspension, among others. Over time, it gained a reputation for its durability, reliability and versatility, becoming popular with farmers, explorers, outdoor enthusiasts and even The Queen.
The Land Rover Series 1 80-inch holds a special place in automotive history as one of the first models that laid the foundation for Land Rover's success. Its rugged design and off-road capabilities formed the basis for future Land Rover models, which are still renowned for their off-road capabilities and luxury amenities.
About this car
This Series One has been completely rebuilt, both engine, powertrain, chassis and bodywork, to the original specifications.
However, it has hardly been driven after restoration and this special British Icon is ready for the next enthusiast.
