1934 MG ND MAGNETTE ROADSTER - 9, 257 MILES SHOWING - A$173, 900
Presenting in period correct two tone Blue with Blue interior trim.
Here is a very rare offering, one of approximately 24 made by the MG factory at Abingdon on Thames in 1934.
Chassis number NA 0333. Engine number 580/ 2 AN.
Small capacity 6-cylinder cars were very much in vogue in the early 1930s and MG were not slow in climbing on the band wagon. First came the Wolseley based F Magna in 1931/ 32, quickly followed by the much-improved 'L' Magna in 1933 which ran concurrently with its big 6-cylinder K type sister, the K2 MG. It was the poor customer demand for the expensive K2 model (only 22 sold) that left the factory with considerable unused K2 material.
The final 6cyl. design, before the MG Company was fully absorbed into Lord Nuffield's Morris Motors empire, was the 'N' series Magnette in 1934 which appeared once again in 2 & 4 seat format; first as the NA and then as the NB (as well as the NE race car version). However, 24 'N' chassis' received the factory redundant K2 bodies and were designated the 'ND'.
The combination formed a very handsome and potent 2-seat sports car, and with its 1271cc engine and huge twin 1&3/ 8th inch carburettors gave a comfortable 56bhp.
The powerful and rugged ND was aimed at the man with a competitive spirit, and the story goes that it was only offered to owners favoured by the MG Works.
The following words are from the present owner who bought the car in November 2014 and together with friends in the the MG Car Club of South Australia, completed the restoration to the current outstanding standard.
" Triple M, UK register number 3367
Single Overhead Cam - bore 57mm x 83mm stroke, capacity 1271cc. Driven through a vertical dynamo and rated at 56bhp @ 5500 rpm.
Transmission - 4 speed ENV pre-selector gearbox
The MG ND model, of which approximately 24 were built, was produced to provide a light weight N type suitable for trial use and was achieved by using up spare K2 bodies on N type chassis frames.
The rear wings and running boards were special to give a narrower rear end and a special spare wheel mounting bracket was designed similar to the P type.
Car number NA 0333 was imported into Australia in 1974, but a restoration by HVR in Melbourne was only partly completed in 2014.
Specification of the MG ND, chassis number NA 0333. Triple M register UK, number 3367

NA 0333 was purchased by Phil Vickery, in September 1973, from MG dealer Barry Walker, for the sum of 125 pounds sterling. On September 10th 1973, it was picked up from Barry Walker's premises by Robert Fisher (Packing & Shipping) Ltd.
Packed ready for shipment to Sydney Australia, leaving on the 22nd of December 1973 and arriving on the 6th of February 1974 on the SS Encounter Bay, where upon an account of $223. 66 had to be paid for Customs & Sales Tax.
When it arrived Phil Vickery was not pleased with the condition of the car and the fact that a lot of parts were not included. Barry Walker told Phil that the person he had got it from had decided to keep some of the parts for one of his own restoration projects.
Phil made several attempts to obtain the various parts, but eventually gave up and sold the car to a Mr E. Ison for the sum of $300 on a date unknown. Then in 1996, Harry Hickling bought the car for $15, 000 and began a serious restoration, with the work being done at the premises of Historic & Vintage Restorations of Blackburn Victoria.
Harry's penchant for originality was evident in the file, detailing his research, that he handed over to me when I bought the car from him in November 2014."
The above words from the present owner plus a photo album of progressive shots of the car during it's restoration give you a very good impression of all who have been involved in it's re-birth, now to an outstanding condition.
