Description

In MG's centenary year join the celebrations with this exceptionally pretty coachbuilt MG by Salmons Tickford of Newport Pagnell.

Tickford fitted their attractive drophead coupe bodywork to approximately 260 MG TAs, making them extremely rare cars.

The Tickford body has lovely proportions and looks absolutely right on the MG chassis yet offers a much greater level of comfort and practicality over a standard TA Midget.

This particular example is being offered for the first time in over fifty years. According to The Tickford Register, it was delivered to Tickfords for bodying on 6th December, 1938 and was finished on the 30th of that same month. However, it was not actually registered until 31st October, 1939 when it was sold to Mr T. Nightingale of Barnt Green, Birmingham.

The car was the subject of a lengthy restoration by the previous owner which, due to illness, he was unable to complete. We have finished the restoration and repainted the car in a most attractive two-tone blue livery which we think suits the car well.

Many new parts have been fitted including a new clutch. The brakes have been rebuilt with new wheel cylinders while the steering box and water pump have also been rebuilt. Fuel and water hoses have been renewed.

The wheels have been powder coated and new carpets have been fitted. The steering wheel has been restored by a specialist.

The electrics have also received attention with a rebuilt dynamo and cut out. New twin 6 volt batteries have been fitted.

The car is extremely original with the only notable deviation from standard being the fitment of telescopic shock absorbers to the front.

The three position hood is in dark blue mohair and is fully lined.

Distinctive features of the Tickford bodywork are full height doors with wind-up windows and folding seats allowing access to the carpeted luggage area.

On the road the MG is enjoyable to drive with spritely performance. Clutch, gears and brakes all work as they should.

There is a file with the car containing a buff log book, receipts and a copy of the Tickford Register. A workshop manual and parts book also accompany the car.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most attractive and collectable MGs and which is VSCC eligible.

T Type MGs are well supported by both the MG Octagon Car Club and the MG Car Club. There are a number of specialists offering parts and services with most items being available off the shelf.

A video of the car can be viewed on the St Andrews Autos YouTube channel.

We would consider taking another classic vehicle in part exchange.
