Description

Cars whose nickname is almost as well known as the actual type name are often very well-known and beloved cars. This certainly also applies to the Mercedes-Benz ‘Pagoda’, where every car enthusiast immediately knows which model it is. The reason for this nickname is not known to everyone: the concave shape of the hardtop of the 280 SL is reminiscent of the roofs of Chinese pagoda roofs.
This beautiful W113 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagode was delivered to its first owner in 1969.
The Pagode is powered by a 2. 8 liter inline-six engine that is linked to a four-speed manual transmission. And is therefore automatically the strongest version. The engine produces 170 hp and is more than powerful enough to allow the 280SL to easily keep up with modern traffic. The brakes and chassis are also very well suited to their task. The car is well-sprung and damped and the brakes are well controlled. The Pagoda was a huge hit for Mercedes-Benz and still has a huge number of loyal fans. Completely justified, because it is a beautiful car to look at and a car that drives wonderfully.
Torque, power, flexibility: everything shows that this car has been wonderfully maintained. The popular four-speed manual gearbox, the chassis and the brakes are also very convincing. A car that we would want to drive effortlessly to the French Riviera. The car lends itself to driving there at a nice pace and taking all the time for the winding roads. The SL is a car with two faces: a great touring machine and at the same time a real sports car.
The bodywork is very neat, with some signs of wear over the years. Nothing serious but small spots that only the owner will notice while cleaning the car. The paint is still in very good condition and has a nice shine. The chrome bumpers and trim parts are all very neat, which also applies to the characteristic alloy wheels and excellent tires. The open Mercedes-Benz has an exceptionally beautiful clock shop that clearly shows that it is a very luxurious and exclusive car. The two large round meters with a vertically constructed cluster in between are of a quality that has had to lower the mandibles not only now but also then.
The overall build quality of an SL is exceptionally good and this is now reflected in the condition and finish.
Technically the SL has been fantastically maintained and is therefore in really very good condition. We already mentioned it: few W113s drive as well as this silver-gray roadster. The bottom of the car is also in the same healthy condition as the rest of the SL. We supply the original manual with the car.
In its silver-gray ‘coat’ and with red leather upholstery, the SL is not only very classic but also timeless at the same time.
In short, this is a very beautiful but exceptionally good SL, ready for many kilometers of fun. Whether touring on international highways or sporty driving over mountain passes and country roads: this SL will not disappoint you.
