PRINCIPAL FACTS:
Previously prepared, maintained and sold by SLSHOP to its present owner, this 1971 280 SL is an excellent example that was built in the final year of the W113 ‘Pagoda’ series SL. Presented in its original silver with a black leather interior this is the archetypal colour and trim combination for the Pagoda, suiting the cars iconic lines perfectly.
Having enjoyed several years of ownership, and continued the car’s impeccable maintenance, the current custodian has added miles to the odometer – a good number of which by taking part in one of our SLSHOP roadtrips. They’re now offering the opportunity for someone else to experience this wonderful 1971 280 SL, and, from previous experience we don’t expect it to stay in our showroom for long.
CONDITION SYNOPSIS:
A car that’s well-known to us at the SLSHOP as we sold it to its current owner, and our technicians have been responsible for its maintenance and upkeep prior to and since its sale. That it previously sold before we even had the chance to list it on the website says a lot about its condition, which we’d describe as excellent. The odometer displays 70, 715 miles, which is under 1, 400 miles for every year it’s been on the road. Admirably, the current owner having added around 3, 000 of those during their ownership, these are cars that should be driven, and experienced.
To allow that use it’s been maintained fastidiously, with a number of recent invoices underlining that, these adding to the extensive history file that accompanies this beautiful, late SL, which is certain to sell as quickly as it did previously.
HISTORY FILE:
It’s not just closing the doors on this ’71 SL that create a satisfyingly weighty thunk, as the accompanying file on the car also does so when you drop it on the desk. This car’s had a different owner for roughly each decade it’s been around, and it seems they’ve all realised the value in regular maintenance, with ample evidence of money spent to keep the car in the condition it presents in today. You’ll find in the paperwork countless previous MOT certificates, old tax discs and notifications of registration plate changes alongside countless invoices for maintenance and servicing. Most recently that paperwork’s headed by SLSHOP invoices and certificates, all of which attest to the excellent condition of the car and mean the next owner can drive it straight out of the showroom with total confidence.
