ISUZU BELLETT GOODWOOD REVIVAL HISTORIC RACER UNIQUE!
Here is an unrepeatable opportunity to buy into a truly unique historic race car that has been invited to Goodwood on no less than five occasions.
BELLETT COMPETITION HISTORY
The Bellett was an instant hit amongst the young racers of the day. Plenty of talented drivers would start of their career in a Bellett. Drivers like Kenichii Nagai, Sachio Fukuzawa, Jiro Yoneyama just to name a few. The Bellett had superior handling compared to many of its contemporaries and so the Bellett would have its fair share of class wins, even at the 1966 Japan Grand Prix, where Shigeaki Asaoka would take 2nd overall in the Touring Car race with his Bellett 1600GT, and a class win in TS-II. Prior to this triumph for the Isuzu camp was a rich competition history with yet more class wins, an overall win at the 2nd Golden Beach Trophy - Special Touring Car race (despite being the underdog) right on down to the large selection of Belletts that raced at the famous Funabashi CCC race in 1965. It would also see a 1-2 Bellett win at Suzuka in a 1966 KSCC organized touring car race. The Bellett saw its competition debut originally at the 1964 Japan Grand Prix.
With its many competition results, the Bellett remains one of those cars synonymous with racing, making its mark wherever it went, not to mention its many efforts in rallying for many Japanese fans, and even internationally as the Bellett was seen in the testing/ practice portion of British Touring Car scene in 1965 with a rather familiar driver: Bruce McLaren, who tested a Bellet at Goodwood, although not taking up the race.
This latter episode was enough to get the car on sale today an invitation to participate in the coveted St. Mary’s Trophy at the Goodwood Revival
This Isuzu Bellett project started with a donor imported from Australia. With the organisers of the Goodwood Revival meeting keen to have such an unusual car on the entry list CSR had just seven weeks to perform the restoration prior to the car's debut at Goodwood.
Key points carried out by CSR on this project included:
• Rebuild of the shell
• Rebuilt and uprated suspension
• Fabrication and installation of a full rollcage
• Lightened where permissible
• Rebuild of the entire running gear to historic specification
