Description
Porsche’s 944 was created to complement and exploit the 924 platform with a Porsche engineered powerplant. Unveiled at 1981 Le Mans, the 944 GT Prototype featured the all new 2. 5 lt 4-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshaft, Motronic engine management and counter rotating balance shafts. Months later the road legal version was presented that fostered the prototype’s engine technology alongside a perfect body weight distribution to be soon awarded by Car and Driver Magazine as the Best Handling Car in America, Despite being the most successful road car in Porsche’s history its racing potential would be displayed at Porsche’s own 944 Turbo Cup Championship series for turbocharged cars and 944 Challenge series for naturally aspirated cars.
The 944 Coupe offered was produced in 1983 in Diamond Silver Metallic over Gray Beige leatherette for the German market. In 2015 it was acquired by a collector who resprayed the car to its original color prior to fitting the insignia as per the 944 Challenge series. It is now offered fully serviced and certified by Federation Internationale Des Vehicules Anciens.
