Description
SLJ Hackett are pleased to offer another fine example of the Bristol 400, this example dispatched from the factory in Filton on 9th of July 1948 to Commonwealth Motors who soon shipped the car to Melbourne Australia. Originally fitted with wireless, sun visors, spare wheel on boot and Metallic Blue coachwork.
Chassis Number: 400/ 370
Delivered to the first owner in Melbourne March 1949, registered MY 229. 400/ 370 had several owners between 1949-1978 when the current owner purchased it from his father.
Out of all the Bristol models the 400 was the most successful in motorsport to name a few achievements the Type 400 accomplished:
1st POLISH RALLY – Winning the 2-litre class and gaining the highest points. 1948
1st OF ALL BRITISH ENTRIES – MONTE CARLO RALLY. 1949
3rd IN GERNERAL CLASSIFICATION – MONTE CARLO RALLY. 1949
92MPH over 100 kilometres officially timed at MONTLHERY TRACK
Fast forward to 2014 the owner decided a full restoration was needed, 400/ 370 was taken to Bristol specialist Sebastian Gross of New South Wales, Australia. The complete body was removed to asses any repairs needed structurally, anything necessary was repaired and finally finished in a very similar colour specifications originally chosen in 1948.
Paired with the as new coachwork, the mechanics were certainly not overlooked, the engine was completely stripped, cleaned thoroughly and rebuilt with modern spec components meaning a substantial power increase from standard.
