Description
We currently have at least 20 major restorations projects either in progress or scheduled for next year, including six E-Types, XJS's, 3. 8S's, Mark II's, a Mark VIII and no less than two Mark IV's. This particular Jaguar 2½ litre RHD saloon has just come in and frankly we couldn't even look at it until next year. Meanwhile we've decided to put it on the market for sale either "as-is" for someone to restore themselves, or for sale as a restoration project that we could complete for the buyer, probably by the end of next year. The car was apparently originally partially built as an SS, but then WWII came along and it was stored alongside others until the end of the war, then completed and, since the "SS" name had been dropped in favour of "Jaguar Cars Ltd.", it was badged as a Jaguar 2½ litre or (retrospectively to differentiate it from the Mark V) a "Mark IV". The chassis number is 510207 (identifying it as a 1946 2½ litre RHD Saloon), the engine number is P238 (P = 2½ litre) and the body number is B2293. The car starts, runs and drives with no smoking or strange noises and seems to be pretty well complete. The only obvious things missing are the gearbox tunnel cover (we have just fabricated one for one of our other Mark IV's, so we can easily make up another one) and the tool kit that is supposed to be in the boot lid (but again we can fabricate one of these to original specifications). The speedometer shows zero miles and the 50, 000 shown in the advert is just a figure plucked out of the blue. The car has been standing for decades and the last log book entry we can see shows she had done about 50, 000 miles in 1972! Other than that the car shows considerable patina, a little minor rust here and there, well used leather interior and fittings and faded chrome in places, but all perfectly restorable. Jeff's Jags is a specialist Jaguar and Daimler-only garage in Johannesburg, where we service, repair, restore and sell Jaguars and Daimlers of all ages. We also export to anywhere in the world.
