The Riley RM series is considered by many to be amongst the prettiest post war classic motor cars. With flowing coachwork and a 1496cc twin cam power unit providing smooth and abundant performance plus torsion bar suspension and telescopic dampers this still remains a true driver?s car. The interior retains the pre-war comforts of wooden dashboard, good quality trim, headlining and carpets, all in all, a most attractive motor car.
The first owner of this RME was a John Banter of Doncaster. The motor car remained in the North Country up until 2018 when it moved to the South West and with the current custodian, who purchased it as a project.
It seems that the Riley was well maintained in the past; from the file, we note that extensive work to the engine was carried out in 1983. New shock absorbers and two new running boards were fitted in the 1990s. In the current ownership, we understand that the carburettor has been rebuilt and electronic ignition, new track rod end seals, new spark plugs and a rotar arm have all been fitted.
The RME is on the button but the mechanics will require checking over. The body needs attention, the interior is generally fair (it will need some elbow grease!) but the driver?s seat requires some work. A fine and elegant project for an RM enthusiast, which is supplied with some spare parts including all wheel cylinders and a master cylinder.
The history file contains a lot of invoices, including a bill of sale from 1987, a spare parts list, model history, ownership history, MOT test certificates dating to 1979, tax discs from 1984, copies of the RM Club magazine, a photocopy workshop manual and the V5C registration certificate.
