Description
Over the years we must have sold hundreds, perhaps even thousands of VW Beetles. This however we rarely see. This model have been restored in a fashion seldom seen with car in this price class. In 1971this “Super Bug” was a Californian supplied car when new. It has an Iberian Red exterior finish, brown hood and brown interior. It is a thing of beauty to behold. This is a so-called Super Bug, distinguishable from other Beetles by its front McPherson struts, an increased boot space from 140 to 260 litres, a 1600cc engine and improved car ventilation. All adding to the improved usability over the standard Beetle.
This car was totally dismantled right down to the very last nut and bolt before being put back together. It is a top-class restoration unlike any we see in this price category. The precisely aligned panelwork is nice and thin. The car was fully resprayed in its original finish. The car has
the original rims shod in correctly sized tyres. A new brown coloured hood was fitted as part of the restoration. The neatly fitting hood is in good shape. The VW was also given new brightwork, new lights, doorhandles as well as new rubber on the foot boards.
The interior was completely reupholstered. Again the work undertaken was done very much in keeping with the original concept in mind. The seats and door cards were done in brown vinyl. New carpets and a dashboard were fitted. Doorhandles, window handles and lock were also replaced. The car sports a beautiful steering wheel and gear knob inclusive of the Wolfsburg logo.
Mechanically the car was wholly taken apart during the restoration. The 1600cc engine has a Solex carburettor fitted, the transmission is by means of a manual 4-speed, The smooth running engine produced 51 Ps. The fully overhauled manual gearbox means you will have no trouble at all in selecting the correct gear. At its inception the Super Bug was famed for its vastly improved handling in comparison to the standard Beetle. The McPherson struts aid stability and cornering. Four drum brakes are perfectly adequate. Whilst driving a Beetle your heartbeat drops a bit and you then can fully enjoy the relaxed experience that accompanies driving a Beetle with the hood down.
The Bug’s paperwork is perfectly in order. The work is fully documented and every invoice is still present. There are many photos detailing the work carried out as well as more general information. In short this is a beautifully restored and rebuilt “Super Bug” Volkswagen Beetle convertible.
