THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GERMAN CAR AT CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE
"You build granny cars" recalled Erich Waxenberg, a development engineer at Mercedes a remark by a German journalist which prompted him to shoehorn the company's biggest and most powerful V8 into the SE model of the W109 family. The 6. 3-litre, 250 hp engine was previously used in the 600 sedan, which weighed over 2. 5-tons. However the new 300 SEL 6. 3 weighed less than 1. 8 tons!
When it was introduced in 1968, the new model became the fastest four-door car in the world! It easily managed to do 200 km/ h with five passengers and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/ h within 6, 3 seconds. Remember, this happened 50 years ago!
Over the course of four years Mercedes built 6526 such models, surpassing all expectations and far outnumbering total production of 600 sedans.
Main information about the restoration: it received a complete care, new paint, refreshed interior (original seats, restored wood inserts). Technical parts also received full maintenance, highlighting the fuel dispenser by Bosch for 6500 euro, air suspension restoration by Woerle in Germany 3500 euro. Everything works well, even the AC blows ice cool air.
