History:
This icon of automobile construction surprised every public at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961, even the expert public was completely surprised by this beautiful automobile. And Enzo Ferrari called the E-type the most beautiful automobile ever built. The E-type was produced in three series. Series 1, which is very sought after today, and Series 1. 5, which is just as sought after, especially as a coupé, in collector's circles. Series 2 received a slightly modified body with stronger lighting and somewhat more comfort. In addition, the further developed 6-cylinder engine was installed, which also found its way into the later coupés and saloons of the Jaguar brand.
This Series 2 convertible was imported to Switzerland from California by its owner in 1984 and successively maintained and restored as necessary over the following 39 years. In the summer of 2023, this pretty and very rare coupé convertible was used by Goodtimer as an ambassador at many events throughout Switzerland, which also proves the reliability of this pleasure car.
Body and paintwork:
The Prime Rose Yellow paintwork corresponds to the original colour and was renewed 25 years ago. Today the paintwork shows a gentle patina without being damaged. The body is absolutely rust-free and in very good condition.
Interior:
The interior was completely renewed in summer 2023 and the seats were reupholstered with original leather from England.
Engine and mechanics:
The entire mechanics are immaculate and extremely well maintained. The engine has very good values, with the carburettors having been freshly overhauled. The gearshift gate has some play due to its age, but shifts well.
Chassis:
Bumpers and brakes were renewed for the last MOT as well the spoke wheels have been replaced.
Driving experience:
The Series 2 E-type in this condition is a faithful companion and can be driven daily. It is forgiving on short distances and durable on long ones. The comfort and the driving experience are unique. The E-type gives pure convertible feeling and lets you feel the nature like hardly any other sports car.
Recommendation:
If you have always wanted an E-type, a Series 2 is the right choice. It is not the first choice among collectors, but for those who want to drive and enjoy such a style icon. The honest condition, the well-documented history and the reliable technology make this example a safe acquisition. And the very rare hardtop gives it that touch of exclusivity.
