Description

Finished in its original colour scheme of Silver metallic with contrasting Navy Blue leather interior and Blue mohair soft top roof, this beautiful 280 SL Pagoda has been owned by the current owner for the past 25 years, with just one previous owner. It was then kept in storage for many years prior to the restoration.

The restoration was carried out by Classic
Classic Preservation. Since being restored, the car has been kept in a climate controlled environment to keep the car in pristine condition.

Possibly one of the best examples of a 280SL in the UK due to the extremely good service history, original paperwork, 2 owners, genuine low mileage and quality of restoration.

The car has recently been inspected by Roger Edwards who took it for the current valid MOT. They advised that subject to some minor adjustments in their view the car is stunning throughout.

The car has the original document wallet with all contents including a service book stamped by a Mercedes dealer at 3274, 7036, 10598, 13903, 17818, 23074 , 25130, 27, 000 and again at 36, 000. It also contains the owners handbook and all other books when it was supplied new plus the original Britax seat belt envelope and the card with wheel changing instructions. There are also two original Mercedes key fobs.

The previous owner told had maintained the car personally for the next 35, 000 miles but unfortunately no documents to confirm.

There are two hard top handles in their original wallet. A full correct tool kit in a canvas roll.
The original jack and original spare wheel cover. There are two sets of keys with original Mercedes key fobs.

The car has had a full restoration with no expense spared. Virtually every rubber mounting/ bush, nut, bolt, screw, self- tapper, washer, and clip/ jubilee clip has been replaced.
All the chrome was either re-chromed or replaced. All the wood has been re-veneered. Even the bonnet strap and the white gear lever gate were replaced.
All suspect metalwork was replaced both front and rear inner and out wings, front and rear valances and front chassis rails. All the spot weld distances which held the original wings were measured and replicated on the new ones. The shell was on a 360% jig when the work on it was being carried out.
The car has been resprayed in the correct Mercedes silver metallic and had a rust preventative chemical injected inside the sills, front chassis rails, etc. The underneath was also sprayed silver utilising the jig. The lower door sills have been sprayed in the correct Mercedes dark grey as per the original.

The engine and box were taken to Roger Edwards, who have a jig to run it outside the car so they could check it and replace any parts/ make running adjustments as necessary. The zinc on the injector pipes was renewed, rocker cover polished and the engine “detailed” by them.

Whilst all the remaining mechanical / electrical components were off the car they were inspected cleaned checked and replaced or repainted as necessary. When viewed from underneath the car is as new.
