EXTERIOR
Finished in Brilliant Red with contrasting silver decals this rare Hartge-tuned 325i Sport looks particularly sharp against our studio backdrop. Being a later example the car is equipped with the desirable M Tech II bodykit, all in exceptional condition. The paintwork throughout has a deep, lustful shine and along both sides the car is arrow-straight with absolutely no scrapes or marks to report. There are no signs of corrosion in any of the usual E30 weak spots such as the wheel arches or scuttle panel, and the underside is also very tidy. The current owner purchased the car from Godfrey Hall BMW way back in 1996 and has always kept it dry stored when not in use. Understood to be one of only a handful of 325i Sports converted to Hartge H26 specification by Birds (UK) Ltd. in period, the car remains in excellent mileage-defying condition.
INTERIOR
Inside you?ll find a number of tasteful upgrades including leather bucket seats, a Momo sports steering wheel, Hartge leather gear knob, and even the owner?s old Nokia 6310 from the early 2000s. As with the outside of the car it?s hard to believe this one has driven 108k miles. All the leather items remain in fine order, and the dash is 100% crack-free having never been overexposed to the sun. The walnut trim is unmarked as is the switchgear, and the carpets are well protected in the footwells by a set of tailored overmats piped in red. The rear seats are also very tidy and in the boot you?ll still find the original BMW tool kit, warning triangle, and first aid kit.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Reading through the accompanying paperwork it?s clear this E30 has always been maintained to a high standard as necessary based on the mileage. When it was bought by the current owner 27 years ago the car was a factory-spec 325i Tech II Sport. It was then taken to marque tuning specialists ? and official UK Hartge importer ? Birds Garage, who carried out the certified H26 conversion. The car was fitted with an uprated Hartge sports camshaft and modified cylinder head with a Hartge stainless exhaust and manifold. Paired with the desirable manual transmission this meant 0-60mph in 7. 1 seconds and on to a top speed of 139mph. Out on the road it?s definitely one of the most rewarding E30s we?ve driven; near-M3 levels of performance but with a silky smooth straight six ? and right-hand drive.
Lifting the bonnet the engine bay presents very well indeed, with the Hartge rocker cover and VIN plate further evidencing the car?s superior performance. For the new keeper?s peace of mind a fresh service and vehicle health check have just been carried out at the current mileage of 108k.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The E30 sits on genuine 16-inch Hartge alloy wheels, all in excellent condition with only a couple of small kerb marks and chips to report, little warranting a refurb in our opinion. They are shod in a brand new set of tyres that were fitted alongside the car?s recent service. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition; new discs and pads were fitted all round at 105k miles.
HISTORY FILE
This striking Hartge-tuned 325i Sport was first registered in August 1991. It was supplied new by BMW in Preston and has now driven 108, 261 miles in the hands of 6 registered keepers. The current owner of 27 years is a real petrolhead who has driven and enjoyed his E30 as intended without ever allowing it to fall into major disrepair. The sought-after Hartge H26 conversion was carried out in 1997 at Birds Garage and the car has been well maintained ever since. The majority of the car?s mileage was covered in the 1990s/ early 2000s and so the general servicing was more frequent at this time. In later years its legs have been stretched on high days and holidays only, and most recently it has been kept as a showpiece inside the Isle of Man Motor Museum.
The accompanying History File comprises the leather document wallet with all handbooks, the fully stamped service booklet, a raft of BMW and specialist invoices, old MOT certificates, an original UK Hartge sales brochure and Birds price list, old V5 registration documents, and the spare key.
