Description

We proudly present this MG N-Type, Finished in the original colour scheme of Gloss Black paintwork with Green Leather interior trim.

First registered 19th June 1934 to its first owner Mr A H Gregson of Leigh on Sea , Essex.

Supplied with an incredibly comprehensive history folder including a copy of the original build sheet and over 200 documents, bills and invoices for maintenance work over years, including invoices going as far back as 1934.

included in the history file are some great treasures such as old tax disc including one dated 1960, letters to the then owner from the MG factory for works carried out on the car. It would appear judging by the amount of parts invoices
the car went through a significant restoration circa 1993-1994 by then owner Mr N Sawyer.

A recent Service and maintenance work was carried out 17th May 2023 which included, Full Fluid and ignition service, new battery and clamp and reshim the rear wheel bearing (cost of £1213. 20)

This lovely little MG starts on the button and drives fantastically.

The MG N-type Magnette succeeded the equally well-regarded K-type as MG’s six-cylinder offering. Built between 1934 and 1936, it was available as a two- and four-door open touring car from the factory with specialist coachbuilders being quick to add their own twist with the most famous being Carbodies with its factory-approved Airline Coupé.

All were fitted with a Wolseley-derived 1271cc inline-six engine mated to a four-speed, non-synchromesh manual gearbox. With 56bhp available, the N-type is decently quick for its period with Autocar magazine writing: “It is not surprising that with the makers' knowledge of racing... it should be capable of giving as high a speed as 80mph. What comes as a revelation is the ease with which on Brooklands that speed is reached and held. The rev needle hovering between the 5, 000 and 5, 500 marks, the whole mechanism feeling as one, and with no sense of adventure attached to such speeds.”

The factory cars had rear-hinged doors and were available in a fetching two-tone colour scheme in addition to the usual solid colours.

The chassis, at eight feet long, is unusual in that its outriggers are suspended on rubber blocks for a more comfortable ride. Thus equipped, the diminutive MG offers a fetching combination of elegant looks, excellent accommodation, a creamy smooth six-cylinder engine.
