Description
This is very pretty and such good value. Presented in Meridian Silver with full Sport Design Package, this stunning pre-facelift Boxster 986 comes with comprehensive service history (11 stamps to 2015 plus additional bills) and drives as good as it looks. Evidently cherished with sensible mileage, this Boxster would be a great introduction to Porsche ownership and whilst making the perfect daily driver would fit in equally as well on a classic car rally or Sunday show-field.
Introduced by Porsche in late 1996, the Boxster was the first proper 2-seater roadster to be built by the company since the demise of the 914 and featured a water-cooled 2. 5 litre flat-6-cylinder engine mounted horizontally behind the cabin providing near-perfect weight distribution. In 2000, the engine was enlarged to 2. 7 litres and an “S” version was introduced with the even more powerful 3. 2 litre engine seen in the 996. The Boxster was subsequently facelifted in mid-2002 with notable external changes to bumpers and lights and the large plastic window being replaced with a much smaller glass one. Further changes came with the advent of the 2nd Generation (987) from 2004 onwards and unsurprisingly, owing to the popularity of the model, Boxster production continues to this day. However, the purists still hold the original pre-facelift 986 in high regard for its styling symmetry and clean lines.
Our car was supplied new in April 2002 through Evans Halshaw of Aldridge to a financial consultant from Chadwich near Bromsgrove. The original Sales Invoice documents factory options to include Meridian Silver paintwork, Sport Design Package, BOSE stereo upgrade, wind deflector and 17” Boxster alloy wheels. Registered on “2 JJD”, the car received a further ICE upgrade in the July with the retrofitting of a Becker Silverstone 2660 system. The Boxster stayed in the Midlands for around 2 years before moving to Cardiff where it remained until around 2010 before heading back to the Midlands again. Service history up to this period (2015) is fully stamped and runs as follows:
May 2003: Porsche Centre Solihull: 7418 miles
April 2004: Porsche Centre Solihull: 15736 miles
June 2005: Porsche Centre Cardiff: 25363 miles
June 2006: Dave Prance: 34287 miles
May 2007: Dave Prance: 43104 miles
May 2008: Dave Prance: 49327 miles
May 2009: Dave Prance: 55000 miles
January 2011: Broughtons Bentley: 59269 miles
March 2012: Broughtons Bentley: 60359 miles (Drive Belt Replaced)
May 2013: Mercedes Benz: 62551 miles
July 2015: Mercedes Benz: 74484 miles
In addition to the servicing listed above, in 2014 the Boxster benefitted from a replacement auxiliary belt with idler, tensioner and pulley and new water pump. In December 2015, the car was sold for £6999 through a car specialist in Dudley to a local Porsche enthusiast who after moving to Kent, retained the Boxster for the following 5 years. Regular maintenance was undertaken by a local specialist in Gillingham noted as follows:
November 2017: Auto Experts: 94858 miles
November 2019: Auto Experts: 112697 miles
March 2020: Auto Experts: 113824 miles
During this period other repair work was conducted notably a new offside window regulator, replacement steering lock and ignition barrel, new fuel cap and the supply and fit of a Pioneer Stereo Head with Satellite Navigation system. In June 2020, the Boxster moved to the Isle of Wight where it has remained until just two months ago and has benefitted from considerable recent investment. This has included replacement CV gaiters, a replacement rear screen (September 2022), full brake overhaul with new vented discs and pads all `round, new road springs and service with all new plugs, oils and filters (116, 000 miles). Current mileage is 116, 900.
The Boxster presents today just as seen in the photographs. The body and paintwork are exceptional with just a light scuff to the front bumper and a few stone chips on the front bumper and leading edge of the bonnet. Wheels are in similar order and shod with practically new Hankook tyres front and rear. The black electric hood shows very little wear and obviously benefits from a replaced rear `screen. Inside, the cabin condition is commensurate with age and light wear with some rubbing to the leather of the driver’s seat bolster and some light scratches to the centre console. Turn the key and the flat-6 fires immediately into life, sounding absolutely gorgeous. On the road, the Boxster performs faultlessly and doesn`t disappoint on any level with stunning performance, great handling and superb brakes. The regular and consistent maintenance is clearly evident. I took the car for a sunny blast across the West Dorset Downs and just loved it. A modern car in my eyes, it still has a classic feel and being 21 years old isn`t overly complicated. It is a car that can be used year `round in all weathers but polishes up superbly when the need arises. Come and see for yourself.
The Boxster comes with comprehensive maintenance history including the original supplying dealer invoice and Book Pack with Driver`s Manual, supplementary books and fully stamped Maintenance Book (11 stamps), full file of receipts documenting the period 2015-2022, old MoT Certificates and a current Certificate to October 2023, a current V5C and 2 sets of keys. A fresh 12-month MoT Certificate will be issued on sale.
A stunning example of a true modern classic with nice provenance.
