Description
Austin Healey 100 BN2 Original & Matching Numbers
The Austin Healey 100 was a complete sensation when introduced at the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show. A true 100mph British open top sports car at just over half the price of a Jaguar XK120. The original BN1 model proved extremely popular, particularly in America with 10030 being sold world wide. The later & much improved BN2 model was only available for 12 months, but still sold 4604.
The production BN2 specification included the much improved C-Series 4 speed gearbox with overdrive, wider 2 ¼” front brakes, a more efficient hypoid differential, larger front wing wheel cut-outs to give extra tyre clearance & modified wishbone arms to give improved steering lock.
This Austin Healey 100 is to the later & more popular BN2 specification. It is a mid-production car which was shipped new to America in late 1955. It was restored to a very high standard, to original specification in America. We purchased the car in America for a lady client, who used it sparingly at her homes in both England & France. She has now reluctantly asked us to sell it on her behalf.
This Car
The car is an original Austin Healey 100 BN2 model, built in late 1955 & shipped to North America. Restored in America in the mid 1990’s by the long term owner, with only occasional dry summer use since. Painted in its original stunning Carmine Red colour, with matching red leather seats, red carpets, trim, hood & tonneau, which are all in excellent condition. In our experience, Carmine Red is the most popular colour for the Austin Healey 100.
We acquired the car in America in 2017 from the long term owner, for a lady client, who used it mainly at her house in France during the summer months. Each Autumn the car was returned to us to be serviced through the winter, ready for the following Spring. Before she took delivery our trimmer fitted a new bespoke hood & tonneau made from original specification Everflex & re-trimmed the original seats in new red leather.
Mechanically the car is in excellent original condition, the engine starts on the button & pulls strongly with very good oil pressure. The gearbox has a clean & easy shift quality & the overdrive works as it should. The brakes stop the car very effectively. Steering & suspension are also as they should be.
The car was last used during the summer of 2019, then COVID hit, it has been stored by us since then. We have just completed a full recommissioning, including fitting a new battery, changing the engine, gearbox & rear axle oils, servicing the carburettors, brakes, suspension & steering. It drives beautifully & is now ready to be used & enjoyed again.
