Description
Original Dutch-delivered Quattroporte 3 4. 9 in excellent condition, a rare sight indeed. Only "2, 025" units of this typical late '70s icon were built. To put it into perspective, Mercedes-Benz produced 7, 380 units of the 450SEL 6. 9 alone and a total of 437, 000 units for the entire W116 series. This makes the Quattroporte an exclusive and scarce gem, elevating almost every modern exclusive car to a mere insignificant mass-produced vehicle.
The Quattroporte was the brainchild of then Maserati owner Alejandro De Tomaso. He departed from the concept of the Type 2, which had front-wheel drive paired with a V6 engine. Type 2 was, back then, essentially just a weak derivative of the Citroën SM, not hiding its lineage. No, Alejandro De Tomaso was certainly not a fan of Citroën, and he made that clear with the Type 3. Type 3, in fact, represents the pinnacle of what the Italian automotive industry had to offer! It was the last one to be entirely handcrafted, boasting the luxury of a top limousine with the character of a sports car. Equipped with a short-stroke V8 engine, produced in Maserati's own factory, and coupled with a 3-speed automatic transmission from Chrysler. No wonder the Quattroporte was a popular choice among government leaders. Celebrities also appreciated the Quattroporte 3, including the great Maserati fan, Luciano Pavarotti, perhaps due to the sound of the imposing V8 engine.
The Quattroporte 3 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who turned Type 3 into an imposing masterpiece. This particular Quattroporte 4. 9 has been exceptionally well-preserved and has covered very few kilometers given its age. It's evident that it has been handled with great care and thriftiness. Come and meet this potential appreciating asset, and let yourself be amazed by this stunning Italian automobile!
