Description
The 1963 Geneva Motor Show marked the birth of the Mercedes 230 SL, commonly known as the Pagoda. A marvellous spider in Mercedes history, it was equipped with classic mechanicals, but with a new in-line 6-cylinder engine and the option of an automatic gearbox as an alternative to the traditional manual. The car had decent performance reaching 200 km/ h and was equipped with an excellent braking system. The design of the car was absolutely innovative compared to its predecessor (the 190 SL) and was conceived to fascinate and conquer the US market.
The undisputed appeal of the Pagoda is fully reflected in our car, which is further enhanced by the elegance of the cream-coloured combination of the bodywork and the leather upholstery. A car that is pleasant to drive, thanks to its automatic gearbox, and versatile in use, given its original body-coloured hard top. Intended for the US market, it was registered in 1965. Since 2015, the car has been registered in Italy, where it is still located. It is in excellent condition and has been maintained and serviced periodically by our workshop since 2016. The car can only be seen by appointment at our premises. Thanks to our technical assistance and restoration workshop, it is possible to inspect it with our professionals, who will be able to provide any technical details.
