The Mercedes-Benz W111 is one of the most stylish cars from the ’60s and early ’70s. Beautiful, strong, exclusive, and expensive. As a result, the W111 was not seen often, especially not in coupe and convertible versions. Over 26, 000 units of the closed variant were built, and just over 6, 000 units of the convertible. Truly an exclusive model. We now have a beautiful example of this coupe in our collection.
The W111 coupe was available with a 2. 2-litre engine and later as a 2. 5, 2. 8, and 3. 5-litre engine, all six-cylinder inline engines except for the 3. 5 V8. Only 3, 797 units of the version we are offering here, the 280SE Coupe, were built. This is a very beautiful and highly original Mercedes-Benz W111 280SE. The car drives well and presents beautifully maintained. What is particularly notable is the fact that the car is equipped with the highly prized manual transmission.
In 2004, the coupe came from France to the Netherlands. After four years in the hands of the first Dutch owner, it went to the second owner in 2008, who kept it until now. Fifteen years of enjoyment, fifteen years of the best care. The car has been fully dealer-maintained, and it is worth noting that the maintenance was done at a dealer who specializes in working on classic models. As a result, there is a nice stack of invoices, all from this official brand dealer, and a few invoices from specialist suplliers where parts were purchased.
The body of the 280SE looks beautiful and is in very original condition. In the past, the car was given a beautiful two-tone paint layer. The sheet metal is nicely thin, and the fit is correct. The car’s paint is in very good condition and looks well cared for. The bumpers and lights are also in optimal condition and are all original. The car sits on the original steel wheels with the original hubcaps that match the colour of the roof. The tires are in good condition and correctly sized. Finally, it is worth mentioning that this car is equipped with a factory-fitted sunroof.
The interior is also very original. The seats are upholstered in beautiful dark blue leather. The mahogany wood on the dashboard is in good condition, as are the instruments and controls. The headliner and top of the dashboard are also original and look to be in good condition. The fully fitted carpets are too in good condition. The dashboard features a period-correct Becker Europa radio, and all other controls and instruments look beautiful and function as they should.
The mechanics have recently undergone maintenance. The engine is one of the indestructible M130 generation. The 2. 8 litre engine size delivers 160 horsepower. It is paired with a four-speed manual transmission with smooth gear ratios. The brakes and suspension have been serviced relatively recently and function as expected. This means that the car overwhelms you with a sense of “wohlfühlen” (well-being), as only a Mercedes-Benz Coupe can offer.
In short, an extremely beautiful Mercedes-Benz 280SE Coupe in a stunning colour combination, both in presentation as well as mechanically in excellent condition.
