EXTERIOR
Having led a pampered life in the hands of only two keepers, this desirable manual M3 remains in excellent condition. The car has just been treated to a full detail and machine polish by our in-house detailer and the result is what you see here, beautiful Silver Grey metallic paintwork with a deep swirl-free shine across every panel. At the front end the lights are crystal clear and there are only a handful of stone chips to note. A keen eye may spot a small graze very low down on the nearside front corner but aside from that there are no major blemishes to be found. Looking along both sides the car is very straight indeed, and the wheel arches are free from any bubbling issues (a common E46 weak point). The electric hood operates perfectly and can be lowered at the touch of a button, either from inside the car or remotely via the key fob; condition-wise it’s spot-on with no marks or discolouration to the fabric. The underside of the car has also been inspected and presents in particularly fine order with no cracks to report around the boot floor/ subframe area. All in all, an excellent example of the fast-appreciating E46 M3, looking every bit the low mileage of just 35k.
INTERIOR
This has to be one of the finest E46 M3 interiors we’ve seen of late. The supple black Nappa upholstery shows very little wear to the bolsters and, having never been allowed to dry out in the sun, remains feeling very soft to the touch. The dash and door cards are also in excellent condition, and the steering wheel retains an excellent grain to the leather. Scratch-prone areas such as the driver’s door pull and delicate centre console trims are also very well presented and hint at only light use. In the footwells the spotless carpets are protected by original BMW overmats, again in first-rate condition. Still housing the removable wind deflector within its storage case, the boot area is also free from any unsightly marks or scratches where larger items have been loaded. A very nicely spec’d example, the list of factory cost options includes heated front seats, the Harman/ Kardon sound system, CD changer, widescreen satnav, rear parking sensors, and multifunction steering wheel with cruise control.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The S54 is an iconic six-cylinder powerplant revving to 8, 000rpm with an intoxicating rasp at higher revs, and in this car it’s paired with the sought-after manual gearbox – needless to say she drives without fault. Despite having covered only 35k miles from new the accompanying service history comprises 13 stamps in the original maintenance book, the last being an Inspection II service in March 2023 less than 600 miles ago. Accordingly, the engine bay is also very well presented with no signs of any accident damage, rust, or previous poor repair. The car has just returned from having a full vehicle health check at our trusted classic car workshop and everything works just as it should.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The M3 sits on its original 18-inch M Double-Spoke alloys, all in perfect unmarked condition having previously been refurbished in slightly a darker shade of anthracite; the BMW centre badges and M emblems are also pristine. The wheels are shod in matching premium Goodyear tyres with plenty of tread left at each corner. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition, effortlessly stopping the car quickly and in a straight line. 4-wheel alignment was carried out in September 2022 and the brake fluid was last changed alongside the most recent service in March 2023. New front calipers were fitted in March 2020.
HISTORY FILE
First registered in October 2004 and supplied new by Vines BMW of Redhill (original number plates still present), this lovely M3 cabrio has driven just 35, 668 miles in the hands of two keepers. The current owner purchased the car way back in 2014 and has continued to maintain it to a very high standard with regular Inspection I and II services carried out; the last service was completed in March 2023 at 35, 074 miles. Other notable recent work includes renewal of the differential input/ output shaft seals, replacement of the offside rear lower ball joint, and 4-wheel alignment, all in September 2022.
The accompanying History File comprises the original M3 leather document wallet with all owners’ manuals, the fully stamped service book, a thick raft of invoices and paperwork dating back to when the car was new, three spare keys, and every single MOT certificate further verifying the car’s low mileage.
