Description

The Aston Martins that came after the DB6 clearly took a new direction in terms of design. William Towns designed beautiful cars that clearly had American influences, with the Mustang often being mentioned as an example. When this model range reached the end of its career, it was once again time for a new direction. In 1991, the Virage Volante was shown for the first time in its final form, as a 2+2, at the Geneva Motor Show. It had a more streamlined, slimmer, and tighter design, but still carried the uniqueness that Aston Martins are known for.

The Virage Volante was one of the fastest convertibles of its time and also very exclusive: depending on the source, between 224 and 233 were built. One of them is seen here, and it is an original Dutch-supplied example.

The Virage you see here is from 1994, a very late example, which means that the Porsche Nachtblau convertible is equipped with the modern four-speed automatic available until 1993.

The car was delivered to its first Dutch owner in September 1994 through Kroymans. The very special and exclusively chosen dark blue shade from Porsche combines beautifully with the dark blue leather upholstery and matching soft top. Since 2007, the car has been in a collection and has not been exposed to harsh weather conditions or seasons.

As a result, the car is in a very well-maintained condition. The bodywork and the unique paintwork are very clean, which is important because considering the exclusivity of the model, you can imagine that finding parts for such a car would not always be easy. Even items like lighting components and mirrors are in very neat, original condition. The Virage comes from the time when Aston Martin was owned by Ford and borrowed some parts here and there. The headlights come from the Audi 200, the front indicators from a Porsche 944, and the taillights from a Volkswagen Scirocco. The mirrors were placed on numerous sporty, low-volume built cars in the ’90s and originated from the Citroën CX.

The interior of the Virage is incredibly beautiful, both in terms of execution, the materials used, and the condition. The blue leather is in top condition, which is not surprising with a mileage of 26, 104 km. The richly finished wooden dashboard is also in perfect condition, with a beautiful shine and colour. As expected from an Aston Martin, the entire dashboard is covered in leather and leaves a very good impression. Naturally, all measuring and control parts are in good condition.

While the Virage may not be a lightweight sports car, the performance of the open two-plus-two seater is impressive: the 5. 3-litre V8 with 32 valves delivers 330 hp, allowing the Virage, equipped with an automatic transmission, to reach 100 km/ h in just over six seconds.

This British gentleman comes with the original Dutch registration documents, Car Record Card, and the necessary invoices. It’s a rare opportunity to own one of the last Aston Martins built according to the classic recipe.
