The 8-Series was the first car ever available with a V12 engine and also got an electronically controlled drive-by-wire accelerator pedal. Along with the Z1, the 8-Series was also the first BMW to be delivered with a multi-link rear axle.
In the early years (from 1990-1992) the car was only supplied with a 5. 0 liter and 300 hp strong V12 engine, something that changed from 1992 when a 4. 0 liter V8 was added to the program.
