Description
1980 Triumph TR fully restored to a minimum of £45, 000.
We have had a number of calls and emails from so called "experts" of Triumph TR's telling us differing stories about these cars and some particularly about our example here. Some of the stories were generically about British Leyland and their other brands and due to many financial crisis within the company there is a lot of speculation and uncertainty.
That uncertainty remains around this car, however from conversations I have had and the paperwork we received the story appears to be as follows:
Documented as 1 of 25 TR's on the production line when the factory closed or production ceased, our vehicle which was destined for the US market was supposedly, as with the others, handed to the employees as compensation and we understand that most of them were then transferred from the US TR7 production line to the UK TR8 production line and whilst starting their lives heading in one direction, finished their lives in a much better place as TR8 RHD vehicles. There is paperwork that confirms this and it is discussed on many TR websites.
Purchased by the current registered keeper in 2011, he kept the car in storage before sending it to British classic car restorers M. V. Classics Ltd of Southampton in 2014. Over the next two and half years they were responsible for the complete restoration at a cost in excess of £45, 000, this included professional painting the car in this incredible and faultless shade of blue whilst the interior retrimmed with black leather and a new black soft top roof.
In 2018 it was registered in Guernsey where it has remained, with very little use, until being re-imported to the UK and registered with its original factory registration number.
Further work was carried out while in the Channel Islands this included a new alternator and replacing the twin SU’s, with manifold, for a new ‘four pot’ Holly downdraft carburettor.
Supplied with a V5 registration document and a file containing old MOT test certificates, a Heritage certificate, photographs and invoices from the restoration.
With approximately 30 official TR8's sold in the UK from new and many modified by owners, this car still must be one of the best in the market place with its pedigree and following its huge restoration. With Triumph Stags commonly selling at £30k plus this extremely rare TR8 looks excellent value and will attract more attention than most.
This vehicle will be supplied with an oil and filter service carried out, an MOT where required and 3 Months nationwide Autoguard warranty with option to extend.
