EQUIPMENT

EXTERIOR
Having been fully refreshed to a very high standard in recent years the paintwork on this rare Bertone-built coupé presents with an excellent unblemished finish. Since the completion of its exterior restoration the car has been professionally dry stored in a climate-controlled facility to preserve its A1 condition. Looking closer, finer details such as the badges, rubbing strips, and seals appear in fine original fettle. The wrap-around bumpers are also in great shape, the lights are clear, and the various chrome trims still have a perfect shine, the only real negative here being a discreet crack in the chrome grille surround. Another nice touch is the correct black vinyl roof which, much like the paintwork, is absolutely pristine. The original Volvo mudflaps also remain in place.
INTERIOR
For a ‘70s car the cabin of the 262C is incredibly well equipped, with features such as air conditioning, cruise control, leather upholstery, electric windows and mirrors all standard fitment. Sitting inside this particular example is a real treat for the enthusiast with everything remaining in incredible time-warp condition. Unlike many leather interiors from this era which tend to be heavily worn, damaged or cracked, the upholstery here is amazingly well preserved with only a small amount of surface wear on the driver’s bolster to note. The seats remain feeling soft and supple, with adjustable lumber support both sides for even greater levels of comfort. As to be expected a small amount of marking is visible across some of the switchgear and dash but otherwise there are few negatives to report. A lovely original interior with just the right level of patina, the only upgrade over standard being an aftermarket CD player and a couple of discreetly fitted rear speakers.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 2. 7-litre ‘PRV’ V6 fires into life first turn of the key and idles up to temperature without fuss. Equipped with the Borg Warner automatic transmission she drives like a dream. Lifting the vast bonnet reveals a clean and tidy engine bay, not overly dressed but in very nice original condition with no signs of any damage or previous poor repair. The car was inspected on arrival with us and has just been fitted with a new fuel pump. The advisory-free MOT is valid until January 2023.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The original 14-inch alloy wheels have been fully refurbished to an excellent standard and so present without any marks or chips. They are shod in a matching set of Continental tyres, all with plenty of tread left. The brakes are also in fine condition and do a go job of pulling the car to a stop quickly and in a straight line.
HISTORY FILE
A rare sight on the roads today, the Volvo 262C is instantly recognisable as something special. Quite amazingly this low mileage example has seen just 2 owners from new. In 2009 it was inherited by the current registered keeper from her late father who purchased the car brand new in August 1979. It was originally supplied by Fisher’s Garage in Horsham whose dealer plaques can still be found in both door shuts. Under current ownership the Volvo has been treated to a comprehensive yet sympathetic refresh, restoring the car to its former glory while retaining as much originality and charm as possible. The result is what you see here, an exquisite 262C looking every bit the low mileage of just 60k. A limited amount of paperwork is available with the car but the condition really speaks for itself.
